Mason Morelli

Growing up in Minot, North Dakota, Morelli moved through the local system—high school hockey, a spell with the Colorado Rampage, then time with the Minot Minotauros—before earning a top selection in the USHL Futures Draft and joining the Fargo Force. Those junior stops provided the competitive seasoning that led him to college hockey.

Undrafted, he chose the NCAA route and spent four seasons with the University of Nebraska Omaha Mavericks. He recorded his first collegiate goal in December of his freshman year and gradually became a dependable two-way centre; by 2018–19 he was the team captain and had been recognized on NCHC academic lists for his work off the ice as well.

Turning pro began with an amateur try-out in Stockton late in 2018–19, where he scored his first professional goal. He signed a contract with the Heat for 2019–20 and experienced the usual early-career shuffling between the AHL and ECHL, including stints with Kansas City and South Carolina. In September 2020 he joined the Hershey Bears and over the next two seasons posted career highs, earned club awards and became a regular contributor in both the regular season and the playoffs.

His tenure in Hershey peaked with the 2023 Calder Cup run: five goals and 13 points across 20 playoff games helped the Bears capture the title. That championship preceded his first NHL deal—a two-year contract with the Vegas Golden Knights signed 1 July 2023—and his NHL debut came on 19 February 2024, when he scored his first NHL goal and added an assist in the same game, the first mult i-point debut in franchise history.

Morelli’s profile is that of a hardworking centre who impacts the game through positioning, puck possession and timely scoring. His path—from junior leagues to college, through the North American minors, to a Calder Cup and an NHL appearance, then onward to the KHL—reflects steady development and adaptability to the roles he’s been given.
