Hudson Fasching's story
Born July 28, 1995 in Milwaukee, Hudson Fasching developed his hockey in Minnesota, playing for Apple Valley High School before moving to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program for two seasons in the USHL. Those years put him in the pipeline for college and international junior tournaments.
He committed to the University of Minnesota in December 2011 and spent his collegiate career with the Golden Gophers. Over 115 games he totalled 94 points (46 goals, 48 assists) and helped the program capture three straight regular-season conference titles. Fasching earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman team after 2013–14 and served as an alternate captain in his junior year, finishing tied for the team lead in goals.
Selected 118th overall in the 4th round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings, his NHL rights were traded to the Buffalo Sabres on March 5, 2014 as part of a multi-player, multi-pick deal. Buffalo signed him to an entry-level contract on March 21, 2016; he made his NHL debut five days later and scored his first NHL goal against the Winnipeg Jets at 8:37 of the first period. After limited opportunities in Buffalo and stretches as a healthy scratch at the AHL level, he was traded to the Arizona Coyotes on June 14, 2018.
Fasching continued his career with subsequent moves: he signed a one-year, two-way deal with the New York Islanders on August 23, 2022, was recalled from Bridgeport on December 1, 2022, and became a regular in the lineup, finishing the 2022–23 season with 10 goals; the Islanders re-signed him to a two-year extension on May 1, 2023. Following three seasons in that organization he inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets in August 2025, then chose to sign his first European contract, a one-year deal with Skellefteå AIK of the SHL, on August 7, 2026.
Internationally, Fasching wore the USA jersey at the 2012 World U-17 Hockey Challenge (silver), at the 2013 IIHF U18 Worlds (silver), and at the World Junior Championships in both 2014 and 2015. He is known for his goal-scoring instincts, willingness to work in front of the net and for translating his collegiate production into complementary roles at the professional level.
