Clark Bishop's story

Growing up in St. John's, Clark Bishop moved through the local minor system before stepping into higher junior ranks; his path took him from community hockey into the QMJHL with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in 2012. Those four seasons in Cape Breton served as his development lab, where he learned to play a physically responsible two‑way centre role and to handle leadership duties.

With the Screaming Eagles Bishop became a steady contributor: he played 214 games for the club, scoring 63 goals and adding 75 assists, and he wore the captaincy in 2014–15 and 2015–16. His junior performance led to his selection in the 2014 NHL Draft, where the Carolina Hurricanes picked him in the fifth round, 127th overall. He turned pro after signing a three‑year entry‑level contract with Carolina on April 4, 2016.

Bishop split his early professional years between the American Hockey League and the NHL. He made his NHL debut on October 20, 2018 with the Hurricanes and recorded his first NHL goal on December 7, 2018. The 2018–19 season saw him shuttle between Charlotte and Carolina; he appeared in 20 regular‑season NHL games and was part of the Charlotte Checkers’ Calder Cup victory. On January 12, 2021, Carolina traded him to the Ottawa Senators for Maxime Lajoie, after which he moved between Ottawa and AHL affiliate Belleville.

As a free agent Bishop signed a one‑year, two‑way deal with the Calgary Flames on July 13, 2022 and spent that season with the Flames’ AHL club, the Calgary Wranglers. During the 2022–23 season he served a four‑game suspension on October 24, 2022 for an illegal cross‑check. He re‑signed a two‑year, two‑way contract with Calgary on June 14, 2023 and began 2023–24 in the AHL after clearing waivers.

Internationally, Bishop wore Canadian colours at the junior level: he was part of the U18 squad that won the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and represented Canada Atlantic at the World U17 Hockey Challenge the same year. His on‑ice profile is straightforward — a centre who plays with positional discipline, offers defensive reliability and can anchor a fourth line or penalty‑killing unit.
