Christian Fischer's story

Growing up in Chicago, Christian Fischer moved through the city’s Mission program and then into the U.S. national development pipeline, appearing for the U17 side in January 2014 and later for the U18s. Those seasons with the NTDP put him on the map ahead of the NHL draft.

Selected 32nd overall by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Fischer split time between junior and pro starts that year: he agreed to a three-year entry-level deal with Arizona on August 20, 2015, and continued with the Windsor Spitfires to finish his junior development. He turned professional at the end of the 2015–16 season with an amateur tryout in Springfield.

Fischer made his NHL debut on January 21, 2017, and scored his first NHL goal in that game. He stayed with Arizona through the 2017–18 season, finishing his rookie year with 33 points in 79 games. Early in the 2018–19 campaign he recorded his first NHL hat trick on October 23 in a 4–1 victory over Columbus.

His résumé includes quick-strike moments: in the USHL he scored a goal six seconds into a game, the fastest in league history. On October 28, 2022, he scored the first NHL goal ever recorded at Mullett Arena and added another later in the same period. Fischer signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings on July 2, 2023, was waived on March 5, 2025, and claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets the next day; he appeared in one game for Columbus before announcing his retirement on July 4, 2025 to pursue a business opportunity in golf.

At international tournaments he won two gold medals with the U.S. U17 and U18 teams, contributing 3 goals and 11 assists across those events. A right-wing forward by trade, Fischer’s career highlights underline a knack for finishing and quick scoring in game situations.
