Growing up in London, Ontario, Ryan Suzuki developed into a centre known for his hockey sense and steady playmaking. He entered major junior hockey as the Barrie Colts’ top pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection and learned the pro-style tempo of the position through heavy ice time in his first OHL seasons.
Suzuki’s junior career shows a clear upward arc: he made Barrie’s lineup in 2017–18 and earned a place on the OHL Second All-Rookie Team, then served as an alternate captain in 2018–19 while leading the Colts in scoring. A November 2019 stick incident to the eye cost him time that season; he was traded at the OHL deadline to the Saginaw Spirit before the 2019–20 campaign was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Selected 28th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, he signed a three-year entry-level deal the same year. Suzuki spent most of his early pro years with Carolina’s AHL affiliates, developing with the Chicago Wolves, posting steady numbers and being part of the Wolves’ Calder Cup-winning roster in 2022.
The next phase of his career mixed AHL production with occasional NHL opportunity. He made his NHL debut on January 30, 2025, appeared in two games for Carolina, then returned to the AHL where he continued to produce offensively and to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic. On July 1, 2026, Suzuki joined the Ottawa Senators organization and began the 2026–27 season with their AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators.
Suzuki’s game is built around playmaking and reading the ice as a centre. He contributes by creating chances and stabilizing the middle of the ice rather than through flash, offering reliable two-way minutes at the AHL level and the occasional NHL look.
