Patrick Brown's story

Growing up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Patrick Brown was involved in competitive youth hockey early on, including playing in the 2005 Quebec International Pee‑Wee Tournament with a Detroit minor team. Those formative tournaments helped shape a player who would make steady progress through collegiate ranks to the pros.

From 2010 to 2014 he played for Boston College in Hockey East, serving as captain in his senior year and being part of the program’s 2012 national title team. Rather than entering via the draft, Brown signed with the Carolina Hurricanes as an undrafted free agent in April 2014, a move that set his professional path in motion.

Brown split time between the NHL and AHL during his early pro years. He made his NHL debut on October 10, 2014, after being recalled for opening night, but spent most of his Carolina tenure with the Charlotte Checkers. As Checkers captain from 2016 to 2019 he helped lead the club to the Calder Cup in 2019. In July 2019 he signed a two‑year contract with the Vegas Golden Knights, played largely in the AHL, scored his first regular‑season goal for Vegas in February 2020 and appeared in 12 playoff games that postseason, recording two goals en route to the Western Conference Final appearance.

Subsequent stops included the Philadelphia Flyers, who claimed him off waivers in October 2021, followed by a trade to the Ottawa Senators in March 2023 for a sixth‑round pick. With Philadelphia he was used predominantly on the fourth line and as a faceoff specialist. As a free agent he signed with the Boston Bruins on July 1, 2023, moved between Boston and their AHL affiliate Providence, and was recalled for the Bruins’ second‑round series against the Florida Panthers in May 2024.

Internationally Brown represented Team USA at the 2023 IIHF World Championship, where the squad finished fourth. On the ice he brings a straightforward, defensive‑minded centre’s game: disciplined positioning, reliability on draws and willingness to take on energy and shutdown roles for his coaches.
