Louis Domingue's story

Growing up in Mont‑Saint‑Hilaire, Louis Domingue worked his way through Quebec minor hockey, playing midget AAA with the Lions du Lac St‑Louis before being picked 13th overall by the Moncton Wildcats in the 2008 QMJHL draft. He later joined the Quebec Remparts, appeared in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in 2010, and was selected 138th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Phoenix signed him to a three‑year entry‑level deal in 2011 and he turned professional in 2012 with time split between the ECHL and the AHL.

Domingue made his NHL debut with the Coyotes in January 2015, entering as a relief goalie and then earning his first start and first win the next day against Montreal. He spent parts of subsequent seasons backing up Mike Smith and in 2016 secured a two‑year contract extension with Arizona. In November 2017 he was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he later signed another extension in June 2018 and established himself in the NHL rotation.

The highlight of his tenure in Tampa Bay came in 2019 when he put together an 11‑game winning streak, the longest by any Lightning goaltender. After Tampa Bay placed him on waivers in 2019, Domingue bounced through several clubs: traded to New Jersey, then to Vancouver in February 2020, signing with Calgary in 2020, joining Pittsburgh in 2021, and in July 2022 agreeing to terms with the New York Rangers. With Pittsburgh in the 2022 playoffs he was unexpectedly thrust into high‑pressure play after an injury to the backup, and his postseason performances — and the now‑famous “spicy pork and broccoli” anecdote — became a notable chapter of that series.

In later seasons he continued to alternate between NHL and AHL roles, including a rare empty‑net goal scored for the Hartford Wolf Pack on April 12, 2024. Domingue also had a brief stint signed to Sibir Novosibirsk in the KHL before returning to North America, and in July 2026 he signed a one‑year deal with Hockey Club Bolzano of the ICE Hockey League. Across his career he has shown adaptability and a readiness to step into starting duties when circumstances demand.
