Kieffer Bellows's story
The first notable milestone in Kieffer Bellows’s story came in high school: as a sophomore at Edina High School he was part of the team that won the Minnesota Class 2A state championship in 2014. Raised in a hockey family — his father played in the NHL — Bellows developed through Minnesota’s competitive youth system before moving into junior ranks.
He made his mark in the USHL, splitting time between the Sioux Falls Stampede and the U.S. National Development Team. In his rookie campaign with Sioux Falls he scored 33 goals, a total that ranked fifth in the league and earned him USHL Rookie of the Year honours. That production led to a stint at Boston University and ultimately set the stage for his entry into the NHL draft.
New York selected Bellows 19th overall in the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Islanders on 22 September 2017 and opted to leave the NCAA early to join the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL, who had selected him in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. Bellows broke into the NHL in February 2020, recording his first NHL point on 4 February and scoring his first two NHL goals in a 5–3 victory on 6 February.
His professional path has moved between the NHL and the AHL, including a disciplinary announcement from the AHL in October 2020 concerning a breach of the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy. In October 2022 the Islanders placed him on waivers and he was claimed by the Philadelphia Flyers. After stints on professional tryouts and an AHL contract, Bellows posted his most productive pro season in 2023–24 with the Toronto Marlies — 27 goals and 49 points in 52 games — before signing a one-year NHL deal with the Nashville Predators for 2024–25 and then agreeing to a one-year contract with Brynäs IF of the SHL in July 2025.
On the ice, Bellows’s game is defined by goal-scoring instincts and a knack for finishing close to the net. His resume shows bursts of high scoring at junior and AHL levels and moments of impact in the NHL, painting the picture of a forward whose strengths centre on finding and converting scoring chances.
