Jakub Lauko's story
Born in Prague on 28 March 2000, Jakub Lauko took his first steps in senior hockey with KLH Chomutov, appearing in the Czech Extraliga as a teenager. His early senior experience in the Czech top flight laid the groundwork for a move to North America after being selected in Canadian junior and NHL drafts; the path from domestic club hockey to the junior and professional ranks shaped his development.
Boston chose Lauko in the third round, 77th overall, of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and signed him to a three‑year entry‑level deal on 28 September 2018. He spent 2018–19 with the Rouyn‑Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL, registering 41 points in 44 regular‑season games. Those playoffs proved significant: Rouyn‑Noranda won the President’s Cup and went on to capture the Memorial Cup, where Lauko finished as the tournament’s top scorer with eight points in five games.
Lauko moved into the professional ranks with the Providence Bruins in 2019–20. That season included a frightening moment on 7 December when he was stretchered off after a collision with Utica’s Justin Bailey; he nonetheless concluded the campaign with nine points in 22 games. Loaned to HC Energie Karlovy Vary in August 2020 while North American hockey was delayed, he later returned to Providence for a shortened season and collected 19 points in 23 games. He earned an NHL opportunity in 2022–23, making his debut for Boston on 12 October 2022, recording his first NHL point on an assist to Nick Foligno and scoring his first official NHL goal on 1 November 2022 versus Pittsburgh, finishing the season with 4 goals and 3 assists in 23 games.
Contract and roster moves followed: Lauko signed a two‑year deal with Boston on 5 July 2023, was traded to the Minnesota Wild on 29 June 2024 along with a draft pick for Vinni Lettieri and another pick, and was traded back to the Bruins on 6 March 2025 alongside Marat Khusnutdinov for Justin Brazeau. He finished that season in Boston with 2 goals and 5 points in 18 games as the club missed the playoffs. After not receiving a qualifying offer, Lauko returned to the Czech Republic on 1 August 2025 with a three‑year contract at HC Dynamo Pardubice.
On the international front, Lauko has represented the Czech Republic at youth levels. The record shows a forward who produced in high‑stakes junior tournaments and who has alternated between AHL, NHL and European hockey while continuing to develop his offensive contributions.
