Jan Jenik's story
Taken in the third round of the 2018 draft, Jeník started his career moving between Czech professional tiers and junior hockey before heading to North America. Early on he split time between HC Benátky nad Jizerou in the 1st Czech Republic Hockey League and HC Bílí Tygři Liberec in the Extraliga, gaining experience by competing at both levels.
His North American jump came through the CHL: selected by the Flint Firebirds in the 2018 import draft, his OHL rights were traded to the Hamilton Bulldogs on 7 January 2019. In his first full season with Hamilton he produced quickly, posting 13 goals and 30 points in 27 games and establishing himself as an offensive contributor at the junior level.
Drafted 65th overall by the Arizona Coyotes, Jeník signed a three‑year entry‑level deal on 29 March 2019. With the 2020–21 season affected by COVID‑19, he was loaned to Imatran Ketterä in Finland before joining Arizona’s AHL affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners. He made his NHL debut on 7 May 2021 against the San Jose Sharks, scoring his first NHL goal on Josef Kořenář and following with another goal in his second game.
His professional arc has alternated between the AHL and NHL: most seasons have seen him spend the majority of time in Tucson, with periodic recalls to Arizona, a one‑year two‑way contract signed on 20 September 2023, and several short stints up and down. After the Coyotes’ franchise was suspended and assets transferred, he was traded to the Ottawa Senators on 3 July 2024 for Egor Sokolov and began the subsequent season with Ottawa’s AHL club in Belleville.
Statistically, his AHL work stands out: he finished a Belleville campaign with 12 goals and 29 points in 52 games, and before a March 12, 2026 trade to the Los Angeles Kings for defenceman Samuel Bolduc he had recorded nine goals and 17 points in 41 games. Those numbers trace a profile of a forward who contributes offense primarily at the AHL level while serving as a depth option for NHL clubs.
