Jack Ahcan's story
Growing up in Savage and playing his high-school hockey at Burnsville, Jack Ahcan split his youth between baseball and hockey before committing to hockey after his junior year. As a senior he stood 5-foot-7 and finished with 23 points in 21 games, a season that earned him a nomination as a finalist for the Minnesota Mr. Hockey award.
Ahcan spent 2015–16 in the USHL with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, where he emerged as an offensively minded blueliner. He scored 15 goals and added 32 assists, leading all USHL defensemen in goals; those numbers brought him the USHL Defenseman of the Year honour and a spot on the First All-Star Team.
He moved on to St. Cloud State for 2016–17 and made an immediate impact, earning a Bauer NCHC Rookie of the Week after a two-game, four-point stretch that included a game-winner. Named the Huskies’ rookie of the year, he worked his way up over three collegiate seasons—posting 23 points in 40 games as a sophomore and later earning NCHC Second All-Star Team and West Second All-American recognition. In his final season he served as team captain alongside his alternates.
Ahcan signed his first professional contract with the Boston Bruins on 26 March 2020. He debuted in the NHL on 18 March 2021 and recorded his first NHL goal on 10 March 2022 versus the Chicago Blackhawks. After three seasons in the Bruins organization he signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Colorado Avalanche on 1 July 2023, and later joined the Nashville Predators as a free agent with a two-year, two-way deal on 1 July 2026.
On the ice he profiles as a puck-moving defender who can jump into the play offensively; his goal totals in the USHL and steady point production at St. Cloud State underline a defender whose game blends mobility and offensive instincts with the responsibilities of the back end.
