Grigori Denisenko's story
Growing up in Novosibirsk, Grigori Denisenko climbed through Lokomotiv Yaroslavl's system and broke into the club's professional roster during the 2018 KHL playoffs. He appeared in four postseason games that year before returning to Loko's junior team, which went on to win the MHL championship.
Seen as one of the top international prospects ahead of the 2018 NHL entry draft, Denisenko was selected in the first round, 15th overall, by the Florida Panthers. He signed a three-year entry-level deal with Florida in 2020, a move that brought him to North America to pursue an NHL career.
He started the 2020–21 season in the American Hockey League with the Syracuse Crunch and later made his NHL debut on 6 March 2021 versus the Nashville Predators. Denisenko also appeared in the NHL postseason for the first time in the 2023 Stanley Cup Final, stepping into the lineup for game 5 against the Vegas Golden Knights due to an injury to a teammate.
His time in North America involved several roster moves: waived by Florida on 6 October 2023, claimed by Vegas, then placed on waivers again and assigned to the Henderson Silver Knights. He skated for Vegas for the first time on 4 January 2024 and finished that initial season with the Golden Knights without a point in six contests. In 2024–25 he spent most of the year in Henderson, producing 10 goals and 24 points over 42 games, before being traded to the Nashville Predators for future considerations on 18 February 2025.
Internationally, Denisenko led scoring at the 2019 World Junior Championship in Vancouver, recording 4 goals and 9 points in 7 games as Russia earned the bronze medal. He is a left winger whose game blends offensive instincts with the ability to move between leagues — KHL, AHL and NHL — as opportunities arise. On 2 September 2025 he signed a one-year contract with Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL.
