Carson Soucy's story

Growing up in small-town Alberta, Soucy's late growth spurt reshaped his hockey trajectory. After time at Triple-A midget and a cut from the Edmonton Oil Kings, he spent a season with the Spruce Grove Saints of the AJHL and helped the club win its 2013 North Division regular-season and playoff crowns. He also played junior men's softball for Canada at an international tournament, but suffered an MCL tear upon returning home that sidelined him for a period.

That added height drew NCAA Division I attention and Soucy elected to play four seasons with the Minnesota–Duluth Bulldogs in the NCHC. His play attracted enough notice to be ranked ahead of the 2013 NHL entry draft, where the Minnesota Wild selected him 137th overall. At college he shared the roster for two seasons with his cousin Parker MacKay as he developed into a professional prospect.

Soucy turned pro in April 2017, signing a two-year entry-level contract with Minnesota and joining the Iowa Wild in the AHL. He earned his first NHL call-up in April 2018 and made his debut that night against the Edmonton Oilers before returning to the AHL. The next years saw him oscillate between leagues: a full AHL campaign in 2018–19, a stronger showing that led to a contract extension in October 2020, and selection by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 expansion draft, where he spent two seasons.

On July 1, 2023, Soucy signed a three-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks; he was traded to the New York Rangers on March 6, 2025. A subsequent trade on January 26, 2026 sent him to the New York Islanders, where he completed the 2025–26 season. After remaining unsigned in the following summer, he joined the Columbus Blue Jackets for training camp on a try-out basis and then agreed to a one-year contract on September 29, 2026.

A right-shot defenceman, Soucy's game centres on physical engagement and puck movement. His late physical maturation translated into a playing style that relies on board play, gap control and making outlet passes to spark transition from the defensive zone.
