Cam Dineen's story
Growing up in Toms River, New Jersey, Cam Dineen learned to skate at four and was surrounded by relatives who played hockey at various local levels. Those grassroots years led him to the New Jersey Rockets, where his final season in junior hockey earned him the EHL Rookie of the Year award in 2015 and attention from higher-tier programs.
Dineen moved north to join the North Bay Battalion via an education contract in June 2015 and produced an impressive rookie campaign—13 goals and 46 assists for 59 points in 68 games—enough to land him on the OHL All-Rookie Team and among the finalists for the Emms Family Award. His play elevated his draft stock and he was selected 68th overall by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
A return to North Bay was cut short by a season-ending MCL tear, and on January 6, 2018 he was traded to the Sarnia Sting in a multi-asset deal. He finished that season strongly with 28 points in 26 contests and drew recognition as a finalist for both Defenceman of the Year and Most Sportsmanlike Player.
Turning pro, Dineen signed an extension to stay in the Coyotes organization on August 2, 2021. He was recalled to the NHL later that fall and made his league debut on November 5, 2021, logging three shots and one hit in 16:50 during a 3–1 loss to Anaheim. On March 2, 2023 he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers along with Nick Bjugstad in exchange for a third-round pick and prospect Michael Kesselring.
Within the Oilers system, Dineen spent the remainder of 2022–2023 and the full 2023–2024 season with the AHL Bakersfield Condors, and he was subject to emergency recalls in March and April 2025. On July 1, 2026 he signed a two-year, two-way deal with the Philadelphia Flyers and is rostered with their AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He is best known for moving the puck effectively from the blue line while maintaining dependable defensive positioning.
