Callahan Burke

As a prep-school player, Callahan Burke wore the captain's 'C' at Noble and Greenough in 2013–14 and finished that stretch with 89 points over 83 games before joining the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders after the USHL Futures Draft (50th overall). He completed his secondary education at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, then enrolled at Notre Dame while majoring in Business Analytics.

Burke spent two full seasons in the USHL (2014–15 and 2015–16), developing into a reliable middle-six forward—20 goals in his first full year, then 39 points as a captain in his second. At Notre Dame he began as a depth forward in 2016–17 but his freshman campaign was cut short by an injury sustained in the first game of the Hockey East quarterfinals series against Providence.

With the Fighting Irish moving into the Big Ten for 2017–18, Burke took on a larger offensive role and posted a career-high 14 goals while helping Notre Dame reach the Frozen Four and the national title game. He tied for the team lead in goals as a junior in 2018–19, earned a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and was part of a second straight conference championship. Named team captain for 2019–20, he closed his college career on the Lowes Senior Class All-American First Team and with another B1G Sportsmanship honour.

Undrafted by the NHL, Burke signed a one-year AHL deal with the Colorado Eagles on 18 March 2020. His AHL play earned him an NHL contract with the Colorado Avalanche on 16 December 2021 and he made his NHL debut on 7 December 2022 in a game versus Boston. Transactions followed: traded to the Carolina Hurricanes on 10 October 2023 and later signed a one-year deal with the Vegas Golden Knights on 2 July 2024; he scored his first NHL goal on 23 November 2024 in a win over Montreal.

On the ice Burke is described by his track record as a two-way checking forward: steady in defensive assignments, willing to take a physical role and capable of chipping in offensively when given increased responsibility at the AHL or NHL level.
