Alex Barré-Boulet's story

Growing up in Montmagny, Alex Barré-Boulet developed an offensive instinct that stood out even though he lacked imposing size. He came through Quebec’s minor ranks with Rive-Sud Express Midget Espoir and the Lévis Commandeurs before being taken late in the QMJHL draft by Drummondville. Those formative seasons sharpened his playmaking and his knack for finding scoring lanes against junior defences.

In the QMJHL he rose steadily as a point producer. After leading Drummondville in assists in one campaign, he was traded in January 2017 to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, where he kept a point-per-game pace and topped playoff scoring. The 2017–18 season was a breakthrough: Barré-Boulet finished with 116 points in 65 games, won the Jean Béliveau Trophy as top scorer and the Michel Brière Memorial Trophy as league MVP, and helped the Armada reach the President’s Cup final.

Undrafted by NHL clubs, he earned a three-year entry-level contract with Tampa Bay on March 1, 2018. Assigned to Syracuse to start his pro career, he made an immediate impact in the AHL — leading rookies in scoring, sharing the Willie Marshall goal-scoring lead, and taking home the Dudley “Red” Garrett Memorial Award. Those AHL seasons led to NHL call-ups with Tampa Bay, a brief claim by Seattle and subsequent moves that included contracts with Montreal and Colorado before signing with San Jose.

His résumé includes major junior and AHL honours that reflect consistent offensive production: league-leading goal and point totals in junior and top rookie and scoring awards in the AHL. These accolades map the trajectory of a player who translated junior success into professional opportunity.

On the ice, Barré-Boulet’s game is defined by quick decision-making and offensive creativity. He relies on mobility, precise passing and a shoot-first mentality to generate chances, carving out a role as a scoring playmaker who can influence the attack even when matched against larger opponents.
