WAR — wins above replacement — says how many wins a player adds over a replacement player. In the NBA, it comes from Basketball-Reference's VORP, built on Box Plus/Minus (BPM) and minutes played.

How it's calculatedHide the method
WAR = VORP × 2.7, the conversion Basketball-Reference itself recommends. BPM estimates, from the box score, points added per 100 possessions over an average player; VORP sets it against replacement (−2.0) and scales it to minutes played. Win Shares, another Basketball-Reference measure, are shown too.
