Brady and Matthew Tkachuk are about to find out what they can do together as full-time teammates with the Florida Panthers. After years of speculation that the brothers might one day share an NHL dressing room, Brady’s move to Florida has finally made it reality for a club chasing a third straight Stanley Cup.
The younger Tkachuk wasted no time making an impression in his Panthers debut during the first pre-season game in Fort Lauderdale. Skating in Florida colours for the first time, he recorded a goal and an assist, then dropped the gloves after an opponent drove captain Aleksander Barkov hard into the boards. As Brady headed to the penalty box with a satisfied look, Matthew’s nod from the bench summed up how well the new addition fits the Panthers’ identity.
From Ottawa frustration to a true contender in Florida
Matthew’s arrival in 2022 transformed Florida from a strong regular-season team into a battle-tested contender that has now reached three consecutive finals and captured the Stanley Cup in 2024 and 2025. Brady comes in bigger, stronger and younger, bringing the same blend of skill, edge and competitiveness that has defined his brother’s impact.
While Brady insists he was fully committed to his role as captain of the Ottawa Senators, that era never produced a playoff series win, let alone a serious title push. At the same time, he watched from the stands at Amerant Bank Arena as Matthew celebrated back-to-back championships, cheering alongside their family and imagining what it might be like to chase the Cup together instead of from afar.
Panthers president of hockey operations and general manager Bill Zito believes the on-ice addition is only part of the story. In his view, the emotional bond the brothers bring into the room is just as important, saying the "short answer is love" when asked what Brady adds to Florida’s mix. For a team that already knows how to win, Zito sees that connection as another layer of glue in the dressing room.
Podcast partners, Olympic linemates and now NHL brothers
The Tkachuks already spend much of their time together talking hockey away from the rink. They co-host the Wingmen Podcast, sitting down weekly with guests to trade stories and opinions, a habit that has turned them into a constant double act around the Panthers. Defenceman Aaron Ekblad likens their presence to having a live podcast in the room, and says he has come to appreciate everything Matthew has done to raise the franchise’s standards.
They are no strangers to sharing the ice either. Both were part of the United States team that struck gold at the Milan Cortina Olympics earlier this year, giving them a taste of what they could accomplish side-by-side on a big stage. Florida’s move this summer has taken that experience and extended it across an 82-game schedule with one clear objective: more championships.
Sibling rivalry will still bubble beneath the surface, with the usual jokes about Brady’s temper or driving, and the Panthers fully expect that competitive fire to spill over toward opponents. As Florida prepares to open its season Tuesday against the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the organization sees a rare opportunity: two star brothers, entering their prime together, trying to extend an already historic run.
