Rogers is celebrating the new NHL season by giving away 300 tickets on Tuesday for the home openers of the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs. The one-day promotion targets Rogers customers in three Canadian markets looking to be in the building for their team’s first home game of the year.
In a statement, Terrie Tweddle, chief brand and communications officer at Rogers, said there is nothing like being at the rink on opening night and that the company wants to help fans create lasting memories as another NHL season begins. The campaign aligns with Rogers’ positioning as a major hockey broadcaster and sponsor in Canada.
Instagram reveals ticket-drop locations and online giveaways
Fans will need to watch Rogers’ Instagram account on Tuesday morning. At 11:30 a.m. local time in each market, the company will post the exact locations where ticket drops are happening in Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto. Tickets at those sites will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies run out, giving local fans an incentive to arrive quickly once the locations are revealed.
Rogers is also including an option for people who can’t make it to the physical ticket drops. For each of the three home openers, five pairs of tickets will be set aside for fans who comment on the Rogers Instagram post by 2 p.m. local time. Winners will be selected from among those commenters, extending the reach of the offer beyond those who can attend in person.
Eligibility limited to current Rogers customers
To claim tickets at the in-person locations, fans must show proof they are active Rogers customers. Acceptable documentation includes the MyRogers app logged in to a current internet or wireless account, a wireless device connected to the Rogers network, a Rogers Red Mastercard, or a paper Rogers bill accompanied by valid photo identification.
By tying the giveaway to its customer base and social channels, Rogers is using the excitement of opening night in three prominent Canadian NHL cities to reward subscribers and reinforce its hockey branding. The promotion links the start of the season directly to fan engagement, both at the arena doors and on mobile devices.
