The Professional Women’s Hockey League has officially awarded its first All-Star Game to Toronto, setting March 7, 2027, as the date for a showcase event at Scotiabank Arena. The game will bring together many of the league’s top players on a neutral stage in one of hockey’s most prominent markets.
Four-team 3-on-3 tournament format
Instead of a traditional single all-star matchup, the PWHL will use a four-team, 3-on-3 tournament format. The rosters will be built around national and experience-based groups: PWHL Canada, PWHL USA, PWHL International and a team of PWHL rookies, mirroring the structure the NHL is adopting this season.
The league is positioning the format to emphasize speed, open ice and offensive creativity, giving both established stars and emerging players ample opportunity to stand out. Scripps Sports will broadcast the tournament on ION across the United States, while TSN will provide Canadian coverage, with Radio-Canada also involved for French-language audiences.
PWHL executive vice president of hockey operations Jayna Hefford said the league was created to feature the best players in the world and that the 3-on-3 setup will "create an intense, fast-paced style of play" while showcasing elite skill in a fresh way.
Star power and rookie spotlight
The All-Star event is expected to highlight many of the league’s biggest names. Among the stars mentioned by the league are Marie-Philip Poulin, Taylor Fox (formerly Taylor Heise), Sarah Fillier and Meghan Keller. On the rookie side, players such as Caroline Harvey, Leila Edwards and Abbey Murphy are expected to get a chance to test themselves against veteran talent in a high-profile setting.
The PWHL describes the All-Star Game as another major milestone for a league that first dropped the puck in Toronto and is now entering its third season. It also gives fans a concentrated look at the personalities and rivalries that have helped fuel the PWHL’s rapid growth.
Key date in a busy league calendar
The All-Star announcement comes ahead of a busy stretch on the PWHL calendar. Training camps are scheduled to open on November 18, following the IIHF Women’s World Championship, with the regular season expected to begin in December.
Ticket details for the All-Star event will be released at a later date, but fans will have the opportunity to purchase seats once the on-sale date is set. For the league, bringing an All-Star Game to a full NHL arena in Toronto is positioned as both a celebration of its players and a signal of how firmly women’s professional hockey has taken root in the North American sports landscape.
