Hockey Canada has invited 48 players to a selection camp in October in Quebec City as it begins final preparations for the next women’s world hockey championship.
From this group, 25 players will ultimately be chosen to wear the Team Canada jersey at the tournament, which is scheduled for November 6–16 in Herning and Esbjerg, Denmark. The camp will serve as the last major evaluation window before roster decisions are made for the international event.
Worlds shifted to November to accommodate PWHL schedule
The women’s world championship, traditionally held in April, has been moved to November. The schedule change is tied to the Professional Women’s Hockey League season, which will run from November through May. With many national-team players now involved in the professional circuit, international organizers have adjusted the timing of the event to fit alongside the new league calendar.
Canada will head to Denmark looking to respond after back-to-back overtime losses to the United States in major finals. The Americans defeated Canada in overtime in the gold-medal game at the 2025 world championship, then repeated the scenario in the Olympic final this past February. Those results frame the challenge awaiting the roster that emerges from the Quebec City camp.
Core of 2024 champions joined by new faces
Of the 48 players called, 19 were part of Canada’s most recent world title in 2024, giving the staff an experienced core to lean on. At the same time, nine players will be attending a national-team camp for the first time, illustrating that new talent is being brought into the mix.
The invite list includes goaltenders Ann-Renée Desbiens and Ève Gascon, along with forwards Éloïse Caron and Rosalie Tremblay. Star forward Marie-Philip Poulin has also been invited but will be unable to take part in the camp. The decisions made in October in Quebec City will determine which 25 players travel to Denmark with a chance to reclaim the world championship for Canada.
